Google uses Postini to beef up apps

More incentives to business

Written by Iain Thomson

Google has boosted the storage and security for its $50 per year Google Apps suite, which includes a variety of tools, including word processing, spreadsheets and email clients.

Anti-spam capabilities have been added in a deal with Postini, along with the ability to recover deleted emails for up to 90 days to help companies meet compliance regulations. Storage space has been upped from 10GB to 25GB.

"It's about making administration of policies easier," said Peter Lorant, senior director of marketing at Postini.

"On compliance it's about administrators' visibility on emails and 90-day message retrieval. These are all things Postini is providing."

Goggle is also using the opportunity to try and increase the take-up of its applications bundle.

Postini's email clients will be offered a free trial of the Google service until June 2008 and the company is hoping that many of them will stay with the Google package.
