Sybase iAnywhere has beefed up the security on its Information Anywhere suite, aimed at preventing unsecured mobile devices from receiving sensitive or confidential Microsoft Exchange email and personal information manager (PIM) data.

The latest security features include the ability to deny Microsoft Exchange email synchronisation requests from mobile handsets that are not properly managed or secured by the Security Manager component.

IT managers can also define a 'security verification policy' on the product's Security Manager console and create a so-called 'white list' of users that should always be permitted to synchronise with Exchange, even if the mobile device fails the security verification policy.

A user black list of users can also be created, preventing rogue users from synchronising with Exchange.

"With the constantly changing mobile landscape, IT managers are faced with the daunting task of securing the influx of multiple types of mobile devices that may be obtained outside corporate purchasing and provisioning processes, " said Joe Owen, vice president of engineering for Sybase iAnywhere.

"Now organisations can take advantage of Information Anywhere to easily block email access from devices that might compromise enterprise security policies."
