Assassin's Creed kicks off 2008 games chart

Medieval hack and slash game tops final charts for 2007

Written by Ian Williams

Video game developer Ubisoft ended 2007 on a high after Assassin's Creed sneaked in at the top of the All Formats Chart on the PS3 and Xbox 360 rankings.

UK sales tracking firm Chart Track revealed that Assassin's Creed dropped seven per cent in sales from the previous week's chart, but that Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare slipped from first to third with a 37 per cent decline.

Football games FIFA 08 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 were the only All Formats Top 10 games to increase in sales.

The retailer-promoted Xbox 360 version of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 helped the title back into the Top 10, up from 13th position to sixth.

FIFA 08 slid into second place, missing out on the top slot by around 1,000 sales.

Meanwhile Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock gave Activision a second Top 10 All Formats ranking this week, coming it at number nine.

ChartTrack All Formats Top Ten:

1. Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft)
2. FIFA 08 (EA)
3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision)
4. The Simpsons Game (EA)
5. Need for Speed: ProStreet (EA)
6. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Konami)
7. WWE Smackdown vs Raw (THQ)
8. More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima (Nintendo)
9. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Activision)
10. The Golden Compass (Sega)
