Paramount continues to back HD-DVD

No plans to defect to Blu-ray

Written by Ian Williams

Paramount has responded to reports that it intends to defect to the Blu-ray camp, insisting that it has no intention of abandoning the HD-DVD format.

"Paramount's current plan is to continue to support the HD-DVD format," said Paramount spokeswoman Brenda Ciccone.

The Toshiba-led HD-DVD Consortium was dealt a blow this week after Warner Bros announced that it will no longer support the HD-DVD format and will back Blu-ray exclusively.

Despite Toshiba's assertion that HD-DVD is still going strong, the move has left many speculating that the HD format war may be drawing to a close.

However, this staunch denial from Paramount, and continued support from industry giants like Microsoft and Intel, means that it may be some time before a resolution is reached.
