TiVo switches on YouTube via TV

Service to be available later this year in the US

Written by Clement James

Set-top box maker TiVo has announced a deal with Google to allow access to YouTube videos directly from televisions via a TiVo digital video recorder (DVR).

The service will be available later this year to broadband subscribers with TiVo Series3 DVRs, including the new TiVo HD.

TiVo users will be able to search, browse and watch YouTube videos directly on their television sets through broadband-connected TiVo DVRs.

The company said that the combination of YouTube and TiVo's intuitive user interface will allow subscribers to "discover and enjoy the most shared and most discussed web videos in the world on their televisions".

Users will be able to log into their YouTube accounts directly from their TiVo boxes and access their favourite YouTube channels and playlists.
