Exploring the emerging grid concept for pooling processing resources

Grid Computing

The fledgling concept of grid computing is intended to allow firms to tap into idle computer resources over Internet Protocol networks. By pooling otherwise wasted capacity, the concept promises to dramatically increase the efficiency of datacentres, cut costs and boost available processing capacity.

Many IT vendors have seized on the grid concept, but buyers are likely to take a more cautious approach to the technology.
