In this feature we take a look at one of Hollywood's best-known actors. He may not be the tallest chap in the world, but he more than makes up for it with his massive hit films, the beautiful women he has dated and, we dare say, the number of zeros in his bank account.
He shot to fame in the 1980s with the film Top Gun. Since then, he has cemented himself as just about the biggest fish in the Hollywood pond.
And with his latest blockbuster, The Last Samurai, currently on our cinema screens, we take a look at a selection of sites devoted to the man with all the right moves - Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise Headquarters
Don't be put off by the homepage for this fansite, with its superimposed Tom Cruise head taking centre stage. This is actually one of the better sites out there.
It's full of the kind of trivia that you would love to forget, but that is so banal, the chances are you will always remember it. For example, were you aware that when Tom was a young lad, his sisters would place him in the sink and practise kissing on him?
The news pages are also frequently updated, currently with news of Cruise's latest film, and the site has some added extras you wouldn't necessarily expect, such as film scripts for Top Gun, Jerry Maguire and a few others.
TomCruiseFan.com
TomCruiseFan.com claims to be "the biggest online resource about Tom Cruise" and, quite frankly, who are we to argue?
Run by a couple of students with the catchy-sounding names of Annie and Fanny, it's a promising sign to see that the site is celebrating its first year online; new ventures often have more energy and dedication.
It seems to be that way with this site, as its news section is bang up to date, with a contribution pretty much every day. The site's design is quite clean and neat too, even if the pages take some time to load, and there are a few pop-up ads you have to swat away from time to time.
Anagram Genius
Fact number one: Tom Cruise's real name is not Tom Cruise, it's Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Fact number two: there's a site on the internet that dedicates its online life to informing you about the anagrams of various people's names.
Without further ado, you'll no doubt be delighted to discover that 'Macho Superstar - Hit Movie' is an anagram of Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Or that 'I'm So Cuter' is an anagram of Tom Cruise.
Naturally, this pointless yet surprisingly fascinating play on words can be undertaken on your own name - on anything in fact - using the downloadable Anagram Genius software. Go on, you know you want to ...
Church of Scientology Official Site
Tom Cruise is without doubt one of the most famous followers of the Church of Scientology and must have helped to raise its profile immeasurably.
There's still plenty of confusion about what Scientology is exactly, and this site should help. According to the Church's official homepage, Scientology aims for "A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where man is free to rise to greater heights."
It's the fastest growing religious movement on earth, according to the site, and was founded by the amiable-looking author L Ron Hubbard in the 1950s.
Movies Rewind
For anyone who had the misfortune of living out their formative years during the 1980s - the decade that style and taste forgot - this reminder of 80s films has the unintended effect of trawling up all those flecked trousers, multicoloured fluorescent towelling socks and Duran Duran records all over again.
What we were looking for on our visit was, of course, information about Tom's performance in that classic 80s film, Top Gun.
Back in the 1980s, crashing and burning with Kelly McGillis was the height of most teenage boys' ambitions, and by scrolling down the vertical menu bar of this site and locating the Top Gun listing, you'll be able to relive the memories of Cruise flying F-14 fighters and singing You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling.
Some interesting facts to chew over too: apparently, flying an F-14 fighter costs $7,000 an hour in fuel alone.
Emily's Tom Cruise Homepage
There's plenty of evidence on this site to suggest that Emily, whoever she is, was, at some point, slavishly devoted to her own Tom Cruise tribute.
However, it now appears to be deserted, the last entry being almost two years ago. It's a shame, especially as Tom Cruise, unlike the majority of big-time celebrities, does not appear to have his own official homepage.
Nevertheless, sites that suddenly stop being loved are an all-too common phenomenon but can, occasionally, still prove useful or interesting.
Serious Tom fans might want to flick through it, especially for the archive images, but given that the accompanying text is hardly revealing, it's a case of move along please, nothing to see here ...
The Last Samurai
Cruise's latest movie sees Tom play Captain Nathan Algren, a Civil War soldier who finds himself training Japan's army. Suffice to say, he gets caught up in a classic Hollywood "violent and epic struggle between two eras and two worlds".
The official site for the film is exactly what you would expect from a Hollywood movie: beautifully crafted, with plenty of background, audio and video clips, and an interesting Making Of category that gives you an insight into just what the process of making an epic feature film involves.
